IRON SAW BLADE
TheMinX (SWI), Torchlight (SWI)
Presented by Rockfact Music Club & Radio Drachenblut
I recently had the opportunity to see the rock band The MinX perform live on
stage at Waldrock Open Air. They made a great impression, and I hoped I would
get them perform live in the canton of Baselland someday. That wish came true
when I discovered a flyer online for their concert at the Rockfact Music Club in
Münchenstein. I was really excited about this event and marked the date in my
calendar. Torchlight was announced as support act. I had the pleasure of
catching them at their live debut at the same venue last year. I went to the
concert when the long-awaited day came. The doors were scheduled to open at
8:00 p.m., and after paying the cover charge, you were allowed to enter the
venue. On my way to the bar, I saw Torchlight’s beautifully designed band
banner. Three-quarters of an hour later, the band members took the stage and kicked off the evening with their music. I
was looking forward seeing them again and their performance. The band’s anthem, “Torchlight,” kicked off the set. It
was an unusual approach, but it effectively drew attention to the music. The music was varied and catchy, rooted in ’90s
rock. The harmonies between lead singer Corina and her bandmates Oliver, Sammy, and bassist Ursle were in perfect
sync throughout the entire performance. That wasn’t something to be taken for granted because they had to coordinate
with each other. They did with flying colors. Guitarists Oliver and Sammy kicked ass on their instruments. They played at
a flawless, high technical level, and the chemistry was right. Oliver slung a small ukulele over his shoulder after “Be
Yourself,” and began playing. I thought incorporating a ukulele was great, since I almost never see this instrument at
rock concerts. Oliver also played a guitar solo on his electric guitar while the ukulele was slung over his shoulder and
received applause. Things continued at a more relaxed pace with “Nameless” and “Dark Yellow House,” when Sämmy
changed guitars. However, the peace was shattered by the rocking song “Anybody,” where Corina asked, “Is there
anybody out there?” and the audience had to shout along with the word “out there.” Drummer Marc, in the background,
kept the beat and played confidently with his drumsticks. He didn’t have any vocal parts and focused on the rhythm.
After “Hurt Myself,” someone asked whether the next song, “Pussy,” was a Rammstein cover. Corina said no, explaining
that it was an original composition. Unfortunately, time flew by, and “Chronograph” was the last song. Afterwards,
Corina, Ursle, Marc, Sammy, and Oliver took a bow before an enthusiastic audience. Forty-five minutes were enough to
leave a good impression.

Then there was a short break while the equipment—including the stage set—was set up for the headliner, The MinX. I
used this opportunity to rehydrate and recharge my batteries. The five –piece from the Bernese Seeland took the stage
at 10 p.m. They hit the ground running right from the start with “Never Too Loud.” Their “Hot Rock” style sounds as if
Danko Jones, Jet, and Airbourne had brought a child into the world together. Catchy, fast-paced, and a ton of fun.
Standing still is out of the question—moving is a must. There was plenty of movement both in front of the stage and on
stage itself. Despite the tight space, guitarist Thomas and bassist Michael frequently switched sides and even went into
the audience. They rocked out with the crowd and returned to their bandmates on stage shortly afterward. They earned
loud applause and sparked enthusiasm. Singer Tobias handled most of the vocals, but his bandmates Lukas, Thomas,
and bassist Michael backed him up with occasional vocal parts. This harmonized singing was perfectly coordinated and
harmonious at the same time. A lot of sweat flowed during the performance, which was a good sign. Kick-ass sound
without sweat ain’t cool! The audience was actively engaged in the performance, and Tobias skipped long introductions
and explanations of the songs. The sound took center stage and spoke for itself. Tobias only mentioned during “Pain In
My Head” that he had recently suffered from this condition due to the intense heat. In my opinion, a brilliant move was
incorporating the chorus from Phil Collins’ hit “In The Air Tonight” into the middle section of “Lost In Needs.” That was a
great way to test whether everyone in the audience was still paying attention. After “Had Enough,” all the band
members left the stage and headed backstage. However, the party atmosphere was still palpable. The crowd was far
from done, and demanded encores. The band returned immediately and played “Friday Night” and the Ben E. King
cover “Stand By Me.” The latter started off very soulful and calm before ending with the pedal to the metal in “Fast &
Furious” style. In my opinion, hearing a cover version of an older hit was a definite plus. As a result there was a big
round of applause for The MinX’s powerful performance. Tobias, Michael, Simon, Thomas, and Lukas were delighted by
the reaction and expressed their gratitude.

Conclusion: It had been worth attending this show. Both bands presented an interesting programm and impressed with
their technically precise playing. The audience was also highly engaged. We were able to enjoy great sound thanks to
the sound engineers behind the mixing console.
Many thanks to Rockfact Music Club and Radio Drachenblut for hosting this event. Your contribution made our
weekend better and more rocking.
