The Kate Effect (SWI), Another Approach (SWI), Sons of Coherence (SWI), Beyond Frequencies (SWI)
February is definitely the shortest month of the year. Jaunty Productions  hosted a new concert on the last day of this month. The four Swiss bands The Kate Effect, Another Approach, Sons of Coherence, and Beyond Frequencies were added to the lineup. The flyer’s design alone caused quite a stir, but the affordable ticket price was another factor. So the ticket bought in advance and waited for the day marked in red in the agenda. Doors opened at 6:30 p.m., and the band Beyond Frequencies kicked off the evening with their music at 7.40 pm. Their style is a mix of rock, modern metal, and catchy

pop melodies. “Shelter” was the first song they played. I took a closer look and I recognized a friend playing bass – no one else than Inga Hanneken (ex-Pulver). Singer Blazy Flash, wearing a beautiful sequined jacket, moved across the stage with a lot of energy and hit every note with precision. Guitarist Joel Walser impressed with great riffs, and Inga, completely immersed in the music, added the groove. Drummer Reto Stutz combined technical precision with explosive energy, working with Inga to create a solid foundation for the sound. You really felt the years of experience on stage and the high level of musical skills. Blazy thanked the audience by saying, “You guys are amazing.” Their mix received positive feedback and was met with applause. The audience was asked to turn on their lighters or cell phone flashlights and wave them back and forth in the air when the ballad “Feel” was played. After that, it was getting harder and faster again. Joel got to sing the words “I” and “You” alongside Blazy in the song “Everything I Am”. “Eye Of The Storm” was the last song, and the four-piece left the stage. Thirty minutes were enough to make a great impression, and they proved that metal and pop go well together. Setlist Beyond Frequencies Shelter Enemy Inside Barrel of a gun Feel Everything I Am Eye Of The Storm Sons of Coherence from Winterthur were next. I had seen them recently live in Olten, where they made a great impression with their set. Singer Sanji, Yannick, Yves, and Nicos took the stage at 8:25 p.m. Their “groovecore” took root from the first notes. Sanji whispered menacingly in “Dyke”, sounding a bit like Korn singer Jonathan Davis. The breakdowns crushed everything mercilessly. Sanji growled and was very happy to perform in Münchenstein. Nikos on guitar delivered staccato riffs, and a circle pit formed around the pole at Rockfact. No long announcements—just playing through without mercy. Bassist Yves was completely absorbed in the sound and enjoyed every second. Sanji thanked the audience on behalf of the band for the opportunity to play at this venue. Unfortunately, band member Pierre couldn’t be there, but his bandmates represented him well. The set was varied, and the entire set was played after “Nameless / Peak”. For 30 minutes, the audience was swept away by groovecore and joined actively. Setlist Sons of Coherence Dyke Hiker / Caged Dig Skizzo Nameless / Peak Another Approach from Winterthur were the next in line. I had seen them perform on this stage for the first time in Münchenstein last year and was really looking forward to their performance. The clock showed 9:10 p.m. and the guys were ready. “Scarytale” kicked off, and the show was enhanced with amazing lighting effects. It never felt overwhelming, as the lighting was perfectly attuned to the mood of the songs, sometimes flickering more intensely and other times more subtly. Singer Jan Brasser (Ophelia’s Eye) sang with great emotion but growled in between. Bassist Claudio Ramsauer, sporting a mustache and a Hawaiian shirt, stood out because of his outfit and exuded Tom Selleck-style coolness. He threw himself into the music with passion and showcased his talent on the bass with impressive dexterity. Claudio switched sides for guitar duels with guitarist Oliver Kürzi. Jan joined Oliver and got to try his hand at the instrument, and it looked great. Claudio left the stage during “Anaesthesia”  to join the audience, giving Jan, Oliver, and drummer Cyril Hertz some space. He returned then because it only works when they’re all together.  Jan drew attention to their YouTube music video “Dreams of Silence” in which they froze their asses off. Their progressive metal, blending metalcore with quiet instrumental passages, was well received. Guitarist Oliver’s solos drew loud applause. The ballad “Intrusive Thoughts” provided a moment to catch their breath and marked the penultimate song. The harmonies of Jan, Claudio, and Oliver blended perfectly. This was followed by a mashup of “Incomplete” by the Backstreet Boys, “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child, “Sing Hallelujah” by Dr. Alban, and the theme song from the Japanese anime series “Pokémon”. They were adopted with loud applause. Setlist Another Approach Scarytale Anaesthesia Dreams of Silence Fall into Grey Intrusive Thoughts Mashup The Kate Effect, hailing from the city of Wädenswil, took the stage as headliner at 10:10 p.m. I’d seen them live once before in Olten and was looking forward to seeing them again. Their album „Make Metal Kate Again“ really made an impression on me because puns like that make album titles much easier to remember. Singer Lukas Villiger wore a sequined shirt during “Are We There Yet”, creating a “wow” effect. However, it soon got too hot for him, so he shed the shirt and wore a “Days of Ruin” undershirt and sweatpants.  He was constantly on the move and full of energy. Guitarists Martin “März” Kubli and Marco “Rada” Radamonti (With One Word) fought duels with their instruments and switched sides despite the cramped stage. It was a real spectacular event where every riff and every sung syllable hit the mark. As a transition to “Until It Breaks,” Lukas announced, “This song is about mental resilience. Every now and then, you just have to stand up and admit that you‘ve a problem.” A major problem in today’s fast-paced world, with ever-increasing demands in professional life and school. They found a drummer in Pascal Maurer (Silent Circus) after a long time, who got to showcase his skills at Rockfact. Lukas made a clear statement against Nazis before “Do Or Die”.  After that, there was a short break, and Lukas said, “Now we’re playing two brand-new songs that will be on our next EP. “We’re playing them live for the very first time today.” That was the icing on the cake. “Numbers” was a critique of capitalism, but Lukas said, “There’s also good capitalism when you take your money and buy merchandise from the bands tonight.” The next song, “Zero Deviation,” was dedicated to Jan Brasser, and “Run” to the amazing audience. “This is our first time playing in the canton of Basel-Country, and you guys are just amazing. We’ll be back at Rockfact in a month.” Summoned one's last reserves of energy and the entire audience was invited on stage to rock out with The Kate Effect. That was so cool! After 45 minutes of high-energy live action, the show came to an end, and the band took a selfie with everyone in the audience. Lukas, Marco, Martin, and Reto said their goodbyes. Setlist The Kate Effect Are We There Yet We’ll Fix Them In Post Our own Purgatory Until It Breaks Do Or Die Worth Living For Numbers Zero Derivation Run Afterward, you could hang out at Rockfact, buy merchandise, and chat with other fans and band members. Unfortunately the crowd was on the smaller side due to other events taking place at the same time, but everyone participated actively in the concert. I’m looking forward to the next event on March 28, 2026, featuring Another Approach as the headliner, The Kate Effect as support act, and other bands. Thanks to Jaunty Productions for organizing and hosting this event. Livereport by Dominic Latscha
