Five Ways To Nowhere (ITA), Crashtime (SWI)
The Italian band Five Ways To Nowhere announced two concerts in Switzerland on the social network Facebook. On December 5, 2025, they stopped in the city of Sursee in the canton of Lucerne, and went to Münchenstein in the canton of Basel-Country on the following day. Crashtime  was added to the program as another band. I really liked the event and that’s why I bought a ticket in advance. I was looking forward to the concert when St. Nicholas Day arrived and visited the Rockfact Music Club. Upon entering the room, the banner of the Italian band Five Ways To Nowhere was visible from afar. They were scheduled to start at 8:10 p.m. I was curious to see how they would present themselves. They formed in Turin in 2015 and are

dedicated to “Hi Fueled Rock'n'Roll.” “Twisted” was the first song and the stage design alone, with its red police lights, aroused curiosity. The punk attitude was evident in the band members' outfits and appearance. Singer Charlotte Esse put a lot of heart into her vocals. The audience was encouraged to get a shot of the drink in “Vodka Queen,”. The music was rocking until the cover of “Rock Me Amadeus” by Austrian musician Falco and the cover of “Bette Davis Eyes” by Kim Carnes. Then came “Love To Hate” and the audience reacted surprised. Why? Because the style changed completely and metal was played suddenly. This was reflected in a harder style of playing with great guitar solos by lead guitarist Dario Orlando and sharp guitar riffs by rhythm guitarist Matteo “Teo” Lassandro with his mohawk. He and Dario supported Charlotte with backing vocals. Davide “Davy” Rocco on bass inserted the groove and created a great sound foundation with drummer Fabio Brunetti. The five-piece had a lot of fun and spread joy every second. Another advantage were the clouds of fog that kept shooting out of the speakers where Dario and Matteo stood and played their instruments. It looked great and Matteo's glowing guitar was an eye-catcher. The focus was on their 2020 album “Bite Hard” and after “Bruised,” they asked if there was interest in an encore. This was the case and they played another cover of “Open Your Eyes” by Guano Apes before ending the show with “Wildstyle.” Charlotte, Dario, Matteo, Davide, and Fabio bowed and said goodbye. They received a lot of applause. 65 minutes of energetic live action was enough to make a great impression. They played several times at the Rockfact Music Club in Münchenstein, but I missed those shows. That's why I was very happy to be able to see the Turineses live this time. The outro was “For Those About To Rock” by AC/DC. Crashtime from the city of Olten in the canton of Solothurn took to the stage at 9:45 pm. The lights went out, an intro called “New Church” began to play, and the band members took their positions. More than four years had passed since their first appearance at Rockfact, and I was looking forward to seeing them again. Their style is “old school heavy metal.” “Dreams of Terror” was the first song played. Singer Al impressed with his vocals from the very first second and put his heart into it. In between, shades of Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson shone through, which suited him well. Lead guitarist René was completely absorbed in his instrument and kicked ass with guitar solos. He alternately sought contact with rhythm guitarist Barry and bassist Schmidi for guitar duels. It was a real treat to see them compete in terms of dexterity. The joy of kicking ass live was palpable at any time, and despite the recuded space, the members switched sides. Al explained that the song “Castaway” was about pirates and waved a pirate flag with a skull and crossbones in one hand while singing. Then the audience was asked if they knew what a wolf sounded like. They did, and had to imitate howling noises on command in “Howling Wolf.” When “Fly Away” was played, Al walked toward the microphone with his face covered by the hood of a monk's robe and took it off in the middle of the song. This was a good move to see the audience's reaction. There was applause and enthusiasm. Al said, “Oh man, I should have brought my sunglasses” in “Black Tied Deceiver”.  The lighting effects were extreme, and no one except bassist Schmidi was wearing eye protection. So Al got some sunglasses and put them on. He and Schmidi really enjoyed the moment, as you could tell from their facial expressions. During the show, clouds of fog shot out and formed the shape of a flame with changing colors. Once it was red, then yellow, green, and finally blue. This effect was a feast for the eyes and made the spectacle even more exciting. After “Mirror Maze,” Al said, “Iron Maiden has been with us for a long time,” and held up a sign with the chorus of the band's anthem “CT Metal” and asked “We really need your help now. You‘ve to sing these lines with us. Can you do that?”.  The song was played, and when Al held up the sign, everyone had to sing the lines “We play metal every night, we play metal side by side, we are metal proud and loud, we are Crashtime shout it out.” They sang at the top of their lungs, and Al looked satisfied. “Every now and then in life, you're either up or down,” and that's what “King or Clown” was about. That should‘ve been the end, but the audience was still on fire and there was an encore. The new song „Priest of Darkness“ started after an intro and was great. The clock showed 11 p.m. and the show ended. Thanks were given to the organizer, the Rockfact Music Club, and the crowd. However, no one was allowed to leave yet, because the band wanted to take a selfie with the fans in the front row. Then Al, Barry, René, Schmidi, and Peter said goodbye with happy faces. They took their time to talk to the audience and signed CDs on request. Max was responsible for the sound of Five Ways To Nowhere and GB for the sound and lighting of Crashtime. Thank you for your contribution to this listening pleasure. A further thanks to Jaunty Productions for hosting this event. The number of spectators that evening was manageable, and it would‘ve been great if more people had found their way to Münchenstein. However, there were other events taking place at the same time and made the situation more difficult in the canton of Basel-Country. Livereport by Dominic Latscha
