The Dirtons -  The Call Of The Raven
The alternative rock group The Dirtons is from the Basel area, Switzerland. It consists of guitarist/singer The Powerstarter, guitarist The Shouter, bass player The Iceman and drummer The Beatmaster Dude. According their own statement, they create a firework of rock, metal, punk and crossover influences between The Ramones and Slayer. In the beginning of 2020 the four-piece baptized their record „The Call of the Raven“ at Singerhaus in the city of Basel before the whole world stopped due to Corona. It was produced by Luk Kipfer at Groovefactory in the federal city of Bern. They sound harder than before on this first EP because the hardness rose by metal influences. Due to the arrangements of the songs you can recognize a strong Body Count influence, which isn’t only reflected in the guitar playing, but also in the vocals of The Powerstarter. Ice-T had his fingers in it. The five songs are presented with a lot of fun and joy. In contrast to many overproduced records, everything sounds authentic due to the good production and revives the 90’s spirit for a moment when anything hadn’t sounded like plastic. I like the debut of The Dirtons, which I could already experience live a few times and could convince me with their performances. I would give them the advise to integrate a bit of their own touch into their sound for the future because there’ll be certainly negative people who would tear them apart as a Body Count rip-off and that wouldn’t be fair to them. 7/12 Review by Dominic Latscha
