Relayer (SWI)
Presented by The Old Headbangers
Rock & Oldies Bar, Wohlen, Switzerland – 20.08.2022
In the municipality of Wohlen in the canton of Aargau, the Rock & Oldies Bar was opened in January 2021. The association The Old Headbangers was founded by the two metal enthusiasts Skorpy Lupp (DJ Skorpy) and Franco Castellano (DJ Fresh), that more events take place again. Meanwhile it has 21 members in its ranks. By coincidence I learned the Swiss melodic rock band Relayer will perform there. A band which inspired me at their previous performances and I wanted to see them live again. For this reason, I went to Wohlen with colleagues. Besides, it's always exciting to get to know new organizers and venues. The door opening was scheduled for 7 pm and the
concert started at 9:35 pm. After an intro, the show started with "Loss Of Control". Singer Sandy Keller presented herself in a good mood with a bright smile and her singing was a joy. The complete band was introduced to the audience by Sandy during "Mistery Woman". And Hene did a "Smoke On The Water" interlude from Deep Purple on his Hammond organ. This was well received by the audience and you could tell if they were paying attention. Guitarist Freddy Schaffner shone on the guitar with solos and interacted with Sandy. Looked pretty cool. Bassist Bruno Gehriger on bass added the grooves. Keyboarder Hene was allowed to come up with vocals in the background and the vocal coordination between him and Sandy worked. Furthermore you could see the fun both had. After "Dark Times" and the "Shout it out" calls in which Sandy animated the audience to shout these words with fist movements, a short break occured to catch one's breath and to recharge the batteries. The silence was interrupted with the announcement "The world we live in is already crazy" and the song "Something's Wrong" marked the continuation. With the announcement "The truth always comes to light", "The Truth" rang out. After "Monster“, "Gimme One More Night" and "Don't Stop, „ "Saturday Night" was played. The chorus "It’s too late for love on Saturday, it’s too late for love on Saturday night" definitely stuck in the head because of its message. If you're too late for love on that weekend day, the only option a man or woman has is doing it better next time and being faster. "Free" was announced as the last song and after that the band wanted to say goodbye. However, there were some spectators who had a different opinion and asked for an encore. This was granted with "Hey Baby" and ended the performance of the five-piece from the canton of Solothurn this evening. The band members left the stage. Setlist Relayer Intro Loss Of Control Mistery Woman Woman In Black Flying High Only U Way Of The World Dark Times Something’s Wrong The Truth Monster Gimme One More Night Don’t Stop Saturday Night Free Hey Baby Although not everything worked perfectly that evening, Relayer overcame this technical challenge, created a good atmosphere and made a good impression. After the concert you could buy their album "Free" at their merchandise corner and talk to the band. Afterwards it was time to head home and another concert evening came to an end. Thanks to the association The Old Headbangers for the organization of this event. Livereport by Dominic Latscha
