IRON SAW BLADE
Bad Marilyn (SWI), Second Function (SWI)
Bad Marilyn impressed me with their performance as support act of Crystal Ball at Rockfact Music Club in
Münchenstein. That's why I was extremely happy about their return to this venue. Second Function was announced as
support. Small concerts are important and should be supported. Superstars like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest,
Guns'N'Roses, Mötley Crüe, Skid Row etc. were once small bands too.
You were allowed to enter the club at 7 pm. The show started 70 minutes later. Second Function inaugurated the
evening. I only knew the name of this group and their music were completely unknown to me. I noticed their banner
with a black background immediately. After an intro, “Shame On The Gods” was played as first song. Singer & guitarist
Flo Bühler and bassist Sascha Wydler presented themselves to the audience cheerfully. The band from Zurich with
drummer Lukas Jundt from Basel played at the Rockfact Music Club for the first time. Flo did a good vocal performance
and controled his instrument. The guitar riffs and solos were played cleanly and he seemed confident anytime. His
colleague Sascha implemented the groove and sought contact with him for guitar duels. After “Moonshine” and ‘Survive’
came the announcement “Here comes a song that we haven't played for a while now”. “What's Left” with its catchy
chorus was well-received. “Falling Down” was played after an intro with machine gun bursts and the statement “the
trigger was stuck”. It reminded me of the impressive Hollywood movie by director Joel Schumacher with Michael Douglas
as William Foster, who ran amok. “They Do Not Care” was about a divided society. “Shibuya” was dedicated to the active,
noisy spectators in the front row. During “Navigation Road”, Flo left the stage and walked through the room, through the
audience and returned to the stage. Nice gesture to demonstrate closeness. The last songs “Speed of Impact” and “Dark
Weeding” were played after an intro. The outro “Fly Me To The Moon” by Frank Sinatra marked the end of the
performance. The three-piece said goodbye and received applause.

A short break occured. The stage was rearranged and the thirst kicked in. An opportunity to get drinks. The stage
decoration with the cover of the debut “Eye of The Snake” was a feast for the eyes.
The time had come at 9:20 pm. The members of headliner Bad Marilyn took to the stage. The beautiful decorated
microphone stand with the snake and roses was a sign that aesthetics is very important. The first song “I Die Inside”
was played. Singer Andrea Böll, wearing a denim jacket without sleeves, exuded joy and hustled. Guitarist Sammy
Lasagni shone with great guitar solos and appeared casual. There were a lot of side changes on stage and Sammy had
duels with keyboardist Andri Leonardo several times. Drummer Stephan Felber showed his skills. A closer look, you
noticed the bass player was missing. There was a reason. Andrea explained that bassist David Craffonara had become a
father the day before and therefore couldn't be there. That's okay, because family comes first. The songs “Eternal Pain”
and “Children of Tomorrow” were dedicated to the mother about the pain of childbirth. Andrea encouraged the audience
to clap along. In general, the members presented themselves with a lot of passion and joy. They seemed like a perfectly
coordinated group where everyone knew what to do. Andri integrated catchy melodies on his mounted keyboard and
was able to get in touch with Andrea and Sammy using a portable keyboard. The music was a strong mixture of heavy
metal/power metal with death metal influences. Andrea showed variation with growls and clear vocals. Andri sang with
Andrea from time to time. The introduction to “Queen of Thunder” was spectacular. "You're sitting on a Harley Davidson,
riding towards the sunrise with the wind blowing. On the way, a sexy woman on another Harley comes towards you. You
look at her, she looks at you. Then she really steps on the gas. Then the speed was increased and this was reflected in
the audience with a lot of movement. It was impossible to stand still. The only ballad followed with “Stay Awake” and
was an opportunity to take a breath. That changed with “Broken Days” when the speed increased again. “Retribution is
next and you’ve to shout this word” demanded Andrea. This request was followed and the word “Retribution” was
shouted along. Actually, “We Will Rise” should‘ve ended the performance. However, the performance was so good that
an encore was demanded. “Revolution” was played and all spectators had to headbang. No problem, because they
mobilized the last of their strength and joined in. The clock showed 10:30 pm and the complete set was played. Andrea,
Sammy, Stephan and Andri took their bows and received big applause. They deserved it.
